I was born in Provo, Utah to Evan M & Norene Schumann Thompson. When I was still a child, my family moved to Northern California where my father accepted a teaching position in the Chemistry Department at California State University Stanislaus. After graduating from Turlock High School, I returned to Utah to obtain my college education.

I served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Upon returning to college, I met and married Elaine Haymore of Nicolaus, California. We had 4 children together, and were married for 27 years until Elaine's untimely passing at the end of 2010.  In 2012  I met and married Lin Eddington of Alpine, Utah. Between the two of us, we are the proud parents of eight children ranging in age from 25 to 33. We also have ten adoreable grandchildren.

Over the years my family and I have lived in Provo and Orem, and the past 29 years in Spanish Fork.

I completed my college education by receiving an Associates degree in Accounting from Utah Valley State College, and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Utah State University.

While completing my education I worked as a Circulation Manager for the Newspaper Agency Corporation (Deseret News) in the Provo and the South Utah County area.  Starting in 1993 and continuing through 2006 I was employed by TransEra Corporation, and its subsidiary, Vantage Controls of Orem, in various management positions. I was elected as the Utah County Clerk/Auditor in November of 2006 and have served in this position since taking office at the beginning of 2007.

I have held professional membership in the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), American Society of Quality (ASQ), and The Association for Operations Management (APICS).  I am currently a member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), Utah Association of Counties (UAC) and its subsidiary organization, the Utah Clerk and Auditors Association.

Since 2015, I have served as member of the State Private Activity Bonding Authority Board. As a Board we review and approve applications for Bond funds that are available to assist the Utah Housing Corporation, Developers of Multiple Family Housing projects, and Manufacturing Companies looking to expand their operations.

Additionally I have enjoyed giving back to my community by volunteering my time in many local community organizations. In the past I have served in the Utah County Republican Party as a Precinct Chair, Legislative District Chair, Audit Committee Chair, and as the County Party Treasurer.

I also enjoy working with young people and have spent over 32 years as a volunteer leader with the Boy Scouts of America. During that time I have had the opportunity to serve in various positions including Scoutmaster, Chartered Organization Representative, and a District Commissioner.

I have also enjoyed serving in my local LDS congregation, several years as the Treasurer of the Provo Friends of the NRA, the Sundance Chapter of APICS, and the Mt. Timpanogos Rotary Club.
